Chocolate Orange and Chilli Cupcakes

I was first introduced to these cupcakes at a dancing event. I had been travelling all day and was pretty ecstatic to be greeted with these unbeleivable Vegan cupcakes.
(I'm pretty sure they have magical powers) My appreciation goes out to Gray for sharing the recipe and bringing these into my life.

Chocolate Orange Cupcakes



  • 1 Cup Almond Milk (or Soya Milk)
  • 1 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 3/4 Cup Caster Sugar
  • 1/3 Cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Cup Plain Flour
  • 1/3 Cup Cocoa Powder
  • 3/4 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
  • 1/4 tsp Sea Salt
  • 1 tsp Orange Essence
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Essence
  • 1 pinch of Chilli pepper according to taste


  • Vegan Margarine
  • Icing Sugar
  • Almond Milk
  • 1/2 Cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1 tsp Orange Essence


To make the Cakes:

Preheat the oven to 180°C

Mix the Milk, Oil and Vinegar

Add all other ingredients and mix thoroughly

Spoon into muffin cases and place in the oven for 20-30 mins. Test with skewer, cupcakes are ready when skewer comes out clean.

Leave to cool on a cooling rack.

To make the Icing:

Mix together margarine and icing sugar with a drop of almond milk until right consistency. (Quantities here depend on how much frosting you want for the cupcakes)

Add the cocoa powder and orange essence and mix through

Wait until capcakes are cool to decorate.

Optional: Add blueberries or raspberries for decoration
